Artist Statement
The camera; a never-ending possibility of creativity and expression.
For myself, a long fear of anxiety, afraid of not being good enough in a sea of images.
This fear led me to turning the camera onto myself; allowing me to become empowered, learn to play and derail the expectations of perfectionism. For me, nature is happiness, and freedom. Photographing animals allowed me to feel their energy and appreciate their uniqueness and beauty. These images combine the empowerment of self-portraiture with the beauty and freedom of nature, encapsulating their energy, and binding them as one into manipulated portraiture. The final images were completed through meaningful image selection, composition choice, and layering effects with Photoshop.
As the works aim to be unique unto itself in the final imagery, I am inspired by photographer Christina Stobbs who beautifully captures the dynamism of animals. Additionally, photographer, Antonio Mora, whose work artistically blends humans and nature.
